The dressing ceremony. When Her Highness arrives to the Boudoir, the courtiers meet her and are ready to fulfil any caprice of the Countess. The dressing ceremony begins with tying the corset, buttoning the countless hooks and bows, as well as trying the jewellery.
Choosing the wig. The next important moment is the hairdresser‘s visit; ladies adored him. He was almost a magician, as the hairstyles or wigs were quite complicated constructions with flowers, bows, feathers, garlands of pearls and other various decorative solutions.
The construction or process of creation of new hairstyle proceeded in the presence of courtiers, who discussed every detail, gave advices and tried to cheer the Countess up, as the process usually was long and uncomfortable.
The next step of makeup is also very important – the rich layer of powder. The Countess was covered with cloak or put in a special „wardrobe“, where head was outside and also covered with special mask. Than the hairdresser took special powder-case and richly covered her wig (hairstyle) with powder. All the attendants were sneezing for some time.
The lunch for her Highness – usually those were exquisite meals. Every day the court cook has to invent new recipes and create culinary masterpieces. One of the most popular 18th century meals was pate, which was served as sculptural composition.
Sometimes the secret guest arrived to the Boudoir. Countess received her favourite – the young Hussar. The courtiers stayed as “guards” and actually were very aware, as if the husband of Her Highness is coming, they will warn duly. And if it is necessary the ladies can hide him under the crinolines!
It happened! The Count arrived suddenly. He noticed the ring on the Countess’s finger – the present of favourite. The scandal expanded, the young hussar, who was hiding under ladies crinolines, was found. The Count threw down the glow.
During the duel the joung Hussar was a brave competitor, he even injured skilful Count. The Count appreciated his fearlessnes and heard the Courtier’s asks to have mercy. This one day in the boudoir of the Countess had the happy ending! Everybody made peace and were dancing Menuetto.
Judging by applause the audience liked this amusing, ironic, comic play on the improvised stage!
Thank You for attention! See You in Rundale!
